Christmas 2009

Kayanne, Ally and Harley in a Christmas past.

Kayanne, Ally and Harley in a Christmas past.

Michael Bernard Beckwith wrote that Jesus “saw perfect spiritual virtue where a crowd saw an adulteress. He saw perfect health in the physically afflicted when he told the lame to walk, commanded withered limbs to be made whole, the blind to see. When others saw a lack of food, he saw an abundance of loaves and fishes. When Lazarus was lying seemingly lifeless before Jesus, he regenerated the life force of the living spirit in which he beheld his dear friend. ”

My hope is that we would all see one another through the Christ’s eyes and see past the imperfections we think are there, to see the perfection in which we were all created. This has always been Jesus’ message to us.

Thomas Merton described his awakening to Christ’s vision like this:

“Then it was as if I suddenly saw the secret beauty of their hearts, the depths of their hearts where neither sin nor desire nor self-knowledge can reach, the core of their reality, the person that each one is in the eyes of the Divine. If only they could all see themselves as they really are. If only we could see each other that way all the time. There would be no more war, nor more hatred, no more cruelty, no more greed…I suppose the big problem would be that we would all fall down and worship each other.”

The big secret is…that we were born with Christ’s vision and have never really lost it. It has only been clouded and muddied by our misperceptions of ourselves and each other. So let us all take a bath in forgiveness and wash away all our misperceptions. Let us see ourselves and all creation through Loves perfect eyes and behold the perfection that God created.
